Lauber’s neo-antique dances balance contrapuntal richness with graceful transparency, while Petra-Basacopol’s Sonata infuses the texture with Romanian melodic inflections, its declamatory lines and folkloric echoes lending expressive freedom and contrast. The programme culminates in Takemitsu’s Toward the Sea III, a meditation on water and space, where sustained flute tones and veiled harp sonorities evoke night, myth and the shimmer of the Atlantic horizon. Throughout, Robert Aitken and Erica Goodman shape the dialogue with sensitivity and tonal finesse, allowing the music’s shifting colours and atmospheres to emerge with natural eloquence.
