Tubin - Symphony No.2 and No.6
Catalog Number: BIS0304
Two symphonies that helped put Eduard Tubin on the map: the visionary No.2 'The Legendary' (1937) and the dance-inflected No.6 (1954). Neeme Järvi and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra make a glowing case for this neglected Estonian master.

Eduard Tubin (1905–1982) fled his native Estonia for Sweden in 1944, and his ten symphonies have only gradually won the recognition they deserve. The Second Symphony, 'The Legendary' (1937), grows from a visionary, slowly building introduction into music of dramatic tension and polyphonic richness, ending radiantly in B major. The Sixth (1954) is more terse and rhythmically daring, drawing on bolero, tango and rumba before its solemn chaconne finale closes on an unresolved question. Neeme Järvi conducts the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in performances central to the acclaimed BIS Tubin series.
