Brahms: 4 Gesänge für Frauenchor, 2 Hörner und Harfe, op. 17
Catalog Number: 900894
Due to the special homogeneity of its sound and its stylistic versatility
that covers all areas of choral singing – from medieval motets to contemporary
works and from oratorios to operas – the Bavarian Radio Chorus
is held in the very highest regard worldwide. Sir Simon Rattle has been
the Chief Conductor of the BR Chorus and BRSO since 2023, and Peter
Dijkstra has shaped the profile of the Chorus as its Artistic Director since
2022. He was already associated with the Chorus in the same position
from 2005 to 2016. In the musica viva series as well as in its own subscription
concerts, the Chorus makes a name for itself regularly with
world premieres. Guest performances have taken it to the world’s great
concert halls: from the Elbphilharmonie, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam,
the Vienna Musikverein, the KKL Lucerne and the Salzburg Festspielhaus
to Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. The BR Chorus often performs together
with top European orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the
Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as original instrument ensembles such
as Il Giardino Armonico or the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. Conductors
who appreciate working with the Chorus include Herbert Blomstedt,
Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Andris Nelsons, Christian Thielemann and
Giovanni Antonini. The Bavarian Radio Chorus has received numerous
prestigious awards for its CD recordings – including the International
Classical Music Award for the Croatian Glagolitic Requiem by Igor Kuljeric, the Mass E minor by Anton Bruckner and André Caplet’s Le miroir de
Jésus, which also was awarded with the Diapason d’or beside Valentin
Silvestrov’s Requiem for Larissa. In these recordings, the BR Radio Chorus and Peter Dijkstra demonstrate their sensitive interpretation of Johannes Brahms' songs.
