Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune
Catalog Number: 900846
Claude Debussy created his first masterpiece "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune" in 1894, which brought him his international breakthrough. This is an impressionistic orchestral work. Debussy found the inspiration for this work in the poem of the same name by the symbolist Stéphane Mallarmé. It is a pastoral poem based on the ancient myth of Pan and Syrinx. Debussy gave the flute the main musical role, because it is the attribute and symbol of the amorous nature god Pan.
