Hélène Mercier and Louis Lortie, both born and raised in Montreal, have maintained one of the most celebrated piano duo partnerships of the past four decades, deepening their musical intimacy through countless concerts and recordings together. This, their ninth album for Chandos, continues their Debussy series with a programme of transcriptions — by Ravel, Dutilleux, Woollett, Durand, and Roques — of some of his best-known orchestral and solo works, including the Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune and Nocturnes. Sitting alongside these are Lindaraja and En blanc et noir, original Debussy compositions conceived for two pianos. Mercier and Lortie share the first and second player roles throughout, bringing a lifetime of musical partnership to every page.
