Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra join Channel Classics for Mozart's Don Giovanni, recorded live in October 2025 in the spectacular Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. It opens a Mozart trilogy, with The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro to follow in the coming years. A dream pairing of André Schuen in the title role and Luca Pisaroni as Leporello heads a first-rate cast, as Fischer sets out his reading of the drama as a fight between order and rebellion – heard, he suggests, in the opera's very first bars, where the basses' repeated bottom note finally overpowers the violins' defiant syncopations. Don Giovanni himself is that restless, rule-breaking energy: a man who knows no limits and follows only his own instincts.
