Ann Murray sings the title role opposite Joan Rodgers as Ginevra, with Christopher Robson as the scheming Polinesso, Lesley Garrett as Dalinda, Paul Nilon as Lurcanio and Gwynne Howell as the King of Scotland. Ivor Bolton conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of English National Opera. Alden strips the opera down to its clear dramatic structure, exposing a society without values in which love barely has a chance. The result is Handel as both pure beauty and grim truth.
