Das Lebewohl
Catalog Number: FUG875
Jiaxin Min's debut album, recorded at thirty, is a meditation on farewell and return. Beethoven's 'Lebewohl' Sonata sits at its heart, framed by Liszt's stormy Second Ballade and Barber's fiercely modern Piano Sonata.
Pianist Jiaxin Min builds her first album around Beethoven's Sonata Op. 81a, 'Das Lebewohl' – a farewell to his friend and pupil Archduke Rudolph, whose three movements trace leave-taking, absence and joyful reunion. For Min the theme is personal: after a period away from music, the album marks her return to the stage and a reconnection with her younger self. Liszt's Ballade No. 2 in B minor, with its storms and lyrical calms, and Samuel Barber's Piano Sonata, Op. 26, crowned by its jazz-inflected fugue, are both works she first learned as a teenager and now revisits with fresh perspective. Recorded at Flagey in Brussels in April 2026 for Fuga Libera.
