Donner vie à une statue...Le fameux exploit de Pygmalion, tombé amoureux de la sculpture qu'il a réalisée et lui donnant vie, apporta à Jean-Philippe Rameau un sujet d'inspiration d'autant plus parfait qu'il lui permettait d'appliquer de manière idéale le principe même de l'acte de ballet : une pièce lyrique et chorégraphique autonome, qui puise dans son propre sujet sa justification.
