It is wonderful to see André Isoir’s inspiring performance of The Art of Fugue back in the catalogue. He played one of his favourite instruments, the III/21 Gerhard Grenzig organ built in 1982 for L’Abbatiale de Saint-Cyprien in Périgord. His playing is immaculate and truly musical, beautifully phrased and articulated. As a result of much study he has re-assessed the order in which the fugues might be performed, coming up with a version which many will find musically surprising even if musicalogically logical.
If you do not possess a performance there is probably no need to look any further.
