Arkora is a Canadian ensemble that brings together voices, electric guitar, piano, synthesizer, strings and a wide array of percussion, from vibraphone and Tibetan bowls to the South Indian mridangam. On Transfigured Light, conducted by Kathleen Allan, the group performs new works by Curtis Andrews, Fay Kueen Wang, Dorothy Chang and Noah Meites, among others, setting texts that range from salutations to the goddess Saraswati and fragments of Tang Dynasty poetry to Arthur Rimbaud's Illuminations. On three tracks Arkora is joined by the Kaleidoscope Vocal Ensemble under Arianne Abela, with soloists Cecilia Duarte and Dashon Burton. The album was recorded in St. John's, Newfoundland, and in Toronto.
