Christine de Suède, Liberata
Catalog Number: MIR802D
Sacred Baroque music evoking the world of Queen Christina of Sweden — Miserere (Melani/Allegri), Corelli, Scarlatti and Kerll — performed by an ensemble of singers and baroque instrumentalists at the Abbaye de Noirlac.
'Christine de Suède, Liberata' explores the sacred musical world surrounding Queen Christina of Sweden, who converted to Catholicism in 1654 and spent her later years in Rome as a prominent patron of music and the arts. The programme presents Baroque sacred works of exceptional beauty: the celebrated Miserere attributed to Gregorio Allegri (here in a version by Alessandro Melani), a Sonata da chiesa by Corelli, the Introitus from a Requiem Mass by Alessandro Scarlatti, and a Kyrie by Johann Kaspar Kerll. An ensemble of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses is joined by baroque violins, viola da gamba, cello, organ, theorbo and baroque guitar, recorded at the Abbaye de Noirlac, France, in January 2026.
