In order to understand the wide range of Johan Helmich Roman's music, it is helpful to know about his life and education. Roman's music is very diverse, stylistically partly classifiable to the High Baroque, but especially in his orchestral works it takes us far into the early Classical period and reflects his broad European education in many ways. The works recorded here are probably the entirety of Roman's works in which the oboe, either solo or duet, plays a solo role.
