Fitting then, that composer Jenni Brandon chose the instrument to represent the raw beauty of California. SONGS OF SEA AND STONE presents a smattering of world premiere recordings for clarinet, capturing the awe-inspiring beauty of the Golden State’s mountains, seas, and everything in between. Works for solo clarinet, clarinet duo, and clarinet and piano are capped off by Fin de la Tierra: Land’s End, a piece inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the Baja California peninsula. Like a film by Jacques Cousteau, it embarks on a musical journey from the peninsula’s shores to its majestic depths, exploring the rich landscape, otherworldly waters, and diverse flora and fauna in a single movement.
