TELL ME A STORY from chamber duo consonari (violinist Anna Larson and pianist Kaden Larson) explores music inspired by literature, legend, and folk tradition. Evoking the timeless power of storytelling, the album features 20th and 21st-century works rooted in nocturnes, lullabies, and musical depictions of the moon and stars. The program weaves together African American folk idioms in Florence Price’s Fantasies, Greek mythology in Karol Szymanowski’s Mythes, and the cosmic grandeur of Walt Whitman in a newly commissioned piece by Matthew Schultheis. Concluding with Kari Cruver Medina’s whimsical Tell Me A Story: Folk, Fairy, and Tall Tales, the album was balanced live to capture the raw emotions of the repertoire and inspire joy, peace, and comfort with each note.
