The Horn Speaks
Catalog Number: NV6903
Retired producer turned prolific composer David Jaeger writes for solo horn, played by dedicatee Olivia Esther. Wistful horn meditations alternate with recitations of the poems that inspired them – more like a live performance than a record.
The Horn Speaks
One would think that after retiring from a decades-long, highly successful career as a music producer, one would enjoy being idle. Not David Jaeger, who spends his days composing prolifically, much to the delight of the instrumentalists to whom he dedicates works. On THE HORN SPEAKS, Jaeger has turned his long-standing interest in solo instrument composition to the horn. Dedicatee Olivia Esther plays these tailor-made works to perfection.
Profoundly woven into the album are the poems on which the music is based. The wistful, pensive horn meditations are interspersed by spoken recitation, and this creates a listening experience that is closer to attending a performance than to merely listening to a record. The contemplative mood, in any case, is sure to linger.
