This album presents Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor and the beloved Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor “Dumky”. The F minor trio, written in the wake of his mother’s death, unfolds with symphonic breadth, blending dark intensity with lyrical reflection. By contrast, the “Dumky” Trio takes inspiration from Slavic folk traditions, weaving together elegiac and exuberant moods in a sequence of vivid musical tableaux. In conversation, the performers describe these works as “a soul caught in a storm,” yet also marked by intimacy, dignity, and deep humanity. Violinist Christian Tetzlaff, cellist Tanja Tetzlaff, and pianist Lars Vogt approach Dvořák’s masterpieces with a rare combination of structural clarity, emotional depth, and chamber-musical intimacy — revealing both their profound seriousness and their sheer joy in music-making.
