Addio Amore
Soprano Jeanine De Bique and countertenor Terry Wey first sang together in 2020 as Cleopatra and Giulio Cesare in Handel's opera, and soon discovered how beautifully their voices blend. Addio Amore fulfils their long-held wish to record a duet album, built around the theme of farewell – one of the most emotionally charged moments in Baroque opera. The program is inspired by Pier Francesco Tosi's 1723 treatise on singing, which praised expressive, heartfelt singing over empty virtuosity, and features music written for legendary singers of the day such as Faustina Bordoni and Senesino. Alongside arias and duets from Handel's Rinaldo and Rodelinda are world premiere recordings of music by Porpora, Albinoni, Giacomelli and Hasse, including Giacomelli's deeply moving farewell duet from Gianguir. Kammerorchester Basel completes the program with two of Giuseppe Torelli's concertos, Op. 8.
