To mark their 30th anniversary, the Miro Quartet records the complete string quartets of Alberto Ginastera, one of the twentieth century's most influential Latin American composers. Ginastera's music fuses the spirit of Argentine folk tradition with a bold modernist language, and these three quartets trace his creative evolution across three distinct stylistic periods, from the vibrant rhythms and folkloric colour of the First Quartet through the introspective lyricism of the Second to the haunting intensity of the Third. The first two quartets remain relatively undiscovered on disc despite frequent live performances, making this a rare recording of all three together. Drawing on influences from Bartók to Stravinsky, Ginastera channels emotional rawness and storytelling into music that is at once intensely personal and part of a larger, cohesive narrative. This marks the Miro Quartet's third release for PENTATONE, following Beethoven's Complete String Quartets (2019) and Home (2024).
