In Mark Adamo's Lysistrata, or The Nude Goddess, the familiar premise of women withholding intimacy to halt war becomes the starting point for a deeper exploration of desire, power and identity. Adamo's own libretto dismantles classical certainties, while his mercurial score - full of shifting textures and mirrored themes where melodies change allegiance and every gesture carries double meaning - recasts the heroine as a figure who must confront the disquieting ambiguities of love itself. Conductor Gil Rose leads the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, an unsurpassed advocate for 20th- and 21st-century American music. The release marks the ensemble's return to PENTATONE, following their GRAMMY-nominated recording of John Corigliano's The Lord of Cries.
