Orff: Carmina Burana
Catalog Number: PTC5187519D
One of the most explosive choral works ever written, Orff's Carmina Burana bursts with earthy medieval poetry, thundering rhythms and the unforgettable "O Fortuna". Jader Bignamini leads the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a vivid, full-blooded account.
Carl Orff's Carmina Burana (1937) sets bawdy, exuberant medieval Latin and German verses on fortune, spring, drink and love, all framed by the celebrated opening chorus "O Fortuna". Jader Bignamini conducts the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with soprano Chen Reiss, countertenor Reginald Mobley and baritone Andrzej Filończyk. They are joined by the choir Audivi and the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus. The result is a colourful, high-voltage reading of one of the twentieth century's most popular scores.
