In Plain Sight
Catalog Number: DRC1228
In Plain Sight: piano music by six women composers — Martines, Farrenc, Bronsart von Schellendorf, Bonis, Chaminade and Bacewicz — played by Joanna Kacperek. Women who were never hidden, but 'present, active, and often celebrated in their own time.'
'In Plain Sight' presents piano music by six women composers who were celebrated and active in their own times, yet whose work has too often been overlooked since. Marianna Martines (1744–1812) opens with her Keyboard Sonata in G. Louise Farrenc (1804–1875) contributes études from Op.26. Ingeborg Bronsart von Schellendorf (1840–1913) offers her Fantasie in G sharp minor and Vier Klavierstücke. Mel Bonis (1858–1937) contributes the Barcarolle Op.71, and Cécile Chaminade (1857–1944) the Poèmes provençaux Op.127 — four evocative pieces of Provençal landscape. Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969) closes with her powerful Piano Sonata No.2. Joanna Kacperek plays with committed advocacy throughout.
