Swedish Concertos
Catalog Number: SCD1198
The Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble celebrates the golden age of the Swedish concerto, with music by Johan Helmich Roman — the "father of Swedish music" — alongside Johan Agrell and Hinrich Philip Johnsen, played on period instruments.
The Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble presents a vivid survey of the eighteenth-century Swedish concerto and its European roots. At its centre stands Johan Helmich Roman, the "father of Swedish music", represented by his festive Overture to Festa musicale and a graceful Flute Concerto in G major. Johan Agrell contributes elegant concertos for oboe and for harpsichord, while Hinrich Philip Johnsen offers a spirited Horn Concerto in E-flat major. Performed on period instruments by the ensemble's own soloists, the programme brings a little-known repertoire to radiant life.
