Platti: Sonate e Triosonate
Catalog Number: TC691603
Long dismissed as a 'minor' master, Giovanni Benedetto Platti turns out to be a composer of real depth and originality. Ensemble J.M. Anciuti, with Stefano Montanari, Claudio Rufa and Paolo Pollastri, bring his sonatas and trio sonatas vividly to life on period instruments.
Giovanni Benedetto Platti (1697–1763) was long regarded as one of the eighteenth century’s “minor” composers, his reputation resting largely on his harpsichord sonatas and a handful of other works. More extensive study of his music, however, has revealed a composer of remarkable depth and originality. His output includes such masterpieces as the Requiem Mass, the Stabat Mater and the Violin Concerto, alongside some of the most beautiful concertos ever written for the cello.
This rediscovery has established Platti’s rightful place in concert programmes and recording catalogues. Here, Ensemble J.M. Anciuti brings his chamber music vividly to life in superb period-instrument performances, featuring Stefano Montanari on violin, Claudio Rufa on transverse flute and Paolo Pollastri on oboe.
