Grosses Orchester GrazIn 2002 musicians from the Graz Symphony Orchestra formed ‘recreation · GROSSES ORCHESTER GRAZ’. The first subscription concerts were given inthe 2002/03 season and were enthusiastically welcomed by the audience. Since then the orchestra has performed at the Styriarte Festival in Graz and the Styrian Autumn festival at well as at the Musikverein in Vienna and the Alte Operin Frankfurt. The members of the orchestra either studied at the university of music in Graz or teach at one of the music education institutions in that city. With their different nationalities they also create a fusion of many southeast European cultures. ‘recreation’ has worked with outstanding conductors such as Heinrich Schiff, Michel Swierczewski and Jordi Savall. The young and talented Colombian Andrés Orozco-Estrada is currently the orchestra’s chief conductor. Bankhaus Krentschker has been the orchestra’s principal sponsor since 2004/05.
