Ortiz, Cristina
Pianist Cristina Ortiz was born in Bahia, Brazil, in 1950 and studied at the Conservatory in Rio and then with Magda Tagliaferro in Paris. In 1969 she became the first woman - and the younges artist - to win first prize in the Van Cliburn Competition in Texas. She moved to London in 1972 and launched herself on a career which has taken her all over the world.
