Holmboe & Gröndahl: Trombone Concerto - Hyldgaard: Concerto Borealis - Jörgensen: Romance / Suite
Catalog Number: 6220526
The trombone gained a strong position in 20th-century Danish musical life, thanks to skilled trombonists, especially in the Royal Danish Orchestra, and a sympathetic attitude from the most significant composers, most obviously Carl Nielsen, in whose symphonies the trombones were often given symbolically charged passages. On the whole, the music of the Nordic countries often calls for the noble sound of the brasses. The Danes have therefore been favoured with a not insignificant body of works that place the trombone at the centre. Over several generations the prominent players of the instrument have inspired an undergrowth of enthusiastic pupils in the country's many amateur orchestras; one can thus speak of a popular Danish trombone tradition which is at present defended and renewed by the undisputed leading light of the profession.
