Mime Yamahiro BrinkmannAfter gaining a Performance Diploma on the modern cello at Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and receiving a scholarship from the Netherlands government, Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann came to study historical performance both on the violoncello and the viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where she graduated with a Solo Performance Diploma (‘UM’) in 1998. She was a prizewinner at the First International Competition for Original String Instruments (chairman Gustav Leonhardt) in Brescia, Italy in 1995 and the first cellist to win a prize at the Musica Antiqua Brugge competition, Belgium, in 1996. She is active as a soloist, chamber music player and as a member of world-leading early-music groups and has toured Europe, North, Central and South America, the Middle East, Australia, Japan and South Africa. She gave historical cello performance masterclasses at the National University of Art in Seoul, South Korea in 2002 and at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in 2004. Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann gives annual masterclasses both for the cello and the viola da gamba at the International Music Festival in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. She lives in Sweden, where she teaches baroque cello at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and enjoys the active Scandinavian musical scene.
