Reinhold Glière

Ukrainian composer Reinhold Glière (1875-1956). He could only survive the tempest of revolution at the expense of his artistic integrity. Shortly before the 1920s he abandoned the intimate forms (piano and chamber music) and dedicated himself almost exlusively to ballet, opera and symphonic scores, whose hallmark was pompousness pervaded by Soviet realism.
