Et Incarnatus est: Sostenuto assai

ComposerCherubini, Luigi

Cherubini had to add a newly composed Sanctus in 1822, since he had borrowed the original piece for another mass. A solemn mass was celebrated liturgically by severals priests.
In Karl Gustav Fellerer's great chronicle of Catholic church music, Elmar Seidel wrote: ' With this work, Cherubini created not only one of the most important orchestral masses of the first half of the 19th century in France, but also an example of this genre which need not shy from comparison with its contemporary fellow peices, Beethoven's C major Mass and Schubert's two great masses'.
Soloists: Pamela Coburn, soprano; Gisela Burandt, soprano; Cornelia Kallisch, alto; Martin Thompson, tenor; Martin Wanner, tenor; Jacob Will, bass.
Penguin Guide: outstanding, a key record.
