The year 1802 was a decisive one for Beethoven: in the autumn, he wrote the 'Heiligenstadt Testament', in which he clearly expressed his awareness of the outcome of his inexorably increasing deafness. At almost the same time, he told his friend Krumpholz that, 'not satisfied' with his 'work so far', he was planning to embark on 'a new path'. It so happens that the works here, skilfully grouped together by Andreas Staier, correspond precisely to that new direction.
1802 est une année décisive pour Beethoven : à l'automne, il a écrit le "Testament d'Heiligenstadt" dans lequel il exprime clairement sa conscience de l'issue où va le mener la progression de sa surdité. Presque au même moment, son ami Krumpholz apprend que Beethoven, "pas satisfait du travail précédent", compte emprunter "une nouvelle voie". Il se trouve que les œuvres proposées ici, regroupées avec habileté par Andreas Staier, correspondent précisément à cette nouvelle direction.
Das Jahr 1802 ist für Beethoven ganz entscheidend: Im Herbst verfasst er das „Heiligenstädter Testament", in dem klar zum Ausdruck kommt, wie sehr er sich über den Ausgang bewusst ist, den seine fortschreitende Ertaubung nehmen wird. Fast im selben Moment erfährt sein Freund Krumpholz, dass Beethoven „mit den bisherigen Arbeiten unzufrieden" sei und „einen neuen Weg einschlagen" wolle. Und die von Andreas Staier geschickt zusammengestellten, hier zu hörenden Werke sind Repräsentanten eben dieser neuen Richtung.
