Telemann - Complete Double Concertos with Recorder
Georg Philipp Telemann was a master of unusual instrumental combinations, and his double concertos are among his most inventive works. This disc gathers all of his known double concertos with recorder. In the Concerto for Recorder and Bassoon both soloists are pushed to the limits of their range, while the Concerto for Recorder and Gamba has a darker hue and an idyllic pastoral slow movement. The two concertos for two tenor recorders follow the concerto grosso model, and the Concerto in E minor for Recorder and Flute contrasts the 'old' and 'new' flutes of the Baroque, ending with a burlesque finale coloured by Telemann's love of Polish folk music. Recorder player Clas Pehrsson is joined by Dan Laurin, Michael McCraw (baroque bassoon), Olof Larsson (gamba), Penelope Evison (baroque flute) and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble led by Nils-Erik Sparf.
