Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is among the most recorded works in the classical repertoire, yet in the hands of recorder virtuoso Dan Laurin it emerges startlingly new. An intrepid explorer – whose credits range from contemporary works to the complete ten-hour Der Fluyten Lust-hof of Jacob van Eyck – Laurin joins the acclaimed Polish period ensemble Arte dei Suonatori to conjure Vivaldi's buzzing insects, pounding summer rain, drunken revels and the terror of the hunt with unusual directness. The programme complements the four concertos of The Seasons with three further Vivaldi concertos, among them the great recorder concerto in C minor, RV 441. Awarded a perfect 10/10/10 by Klassik Heute and available in both surround and stereo, it reunites a partnership whose earlier Telemann recording one critic found ‘almost dangerously addictive’.
