Jonathan Manson

Jonathan Manson was born in Edinburgh and received his formative training at the International Cello Centre in Scotland, going on to study under Steven Doane at the Eastman School of Music in New York. While in America, he became involved with the performance of early music and from there went to Holland to study the viola da gamba under Wieland Kuijken, graduating from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with a soloist’s diploma in 1995. On both cello and viola da gamba, Jonathan Manson plays with many leading early music ensembles, and he is a founding member of the viol quartet Phantasm. In 1999 he became principal cellist of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. He makes his home near London, where he is also a professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
