The French composer Clémence de Grandval (1828-1907) studied under Chopin, Flotow and Saint-Saëns. She was a prolific, and was, during her lifetime, a frequently performed composer. The Romantic magic of the works for oboe - at times evocative of Berlioz, Chopin and Liszt - appearing on this CD for the first time is a discovery well worth making!
