LIDHOLM: Choral Music
Catalog Number: BIS1549-50
Born in 1921, Ingvar Lidholm is the doyen of Swedish music. After three CDs of his orchestral works, this two-disc set presents the major part of his a cappella choral music, written largely for Eric Ericson and his world-renowned chamber choir. With the choir as his instrument, Lidholm created a virtuosic and expressive style, often addressing moral themes such as power and its abuses (The Persians). Inspired by classical antiquity and by Strindberg, whose texts feature in several works, Lidholm’s music here spans from Laudi (1947) to later masterpieces. Recorded 2003–2005 with the composer’s active involvement, this release crowns nearly 60 years of collaboration between Lidholm and Ericson.
Made in Sweden since 1999. In collaboration with Textalk.
