Lamento - Complete Works for Soprano and Organ

Lamento - Complete Works for Soprano and Organ
This recording celebrates the music of Torsten Nilsson (1920–1999), one of Sweden’s most distinctive church composers and organists. Nilsson combined his Lutheran roots with inspirations from Catholic mysticism, Gregorian chant, and modern twelve-tone techniques, shaping a style at once lyrical, dramatic, and intensely spiritual. His career included influential posts at Sancta Maria Church in Helsingborg and Oscar’s Church in Stockholm, where he founded the acclaimed Oscar’s Motet Choir. Despite personal tragedy and serious illness, Nilsson continued to compose, leaving behind oratorios, operas, motets, and powerful organ works. Highlights on this album include Consolamini, consolamini, popule meus, Ecce venit cum nubibus, Deuteroskopi, and excerpts from Nox Angustiae. Performed by soprano Mona Julsrud and organist Bjørn Kåre Moe, these works reveal Nilsson’s lifelong motto: “The Spirit gives life.”
