Songs of the Sea, a suite for soprano and strings, sets English poetry by Tennyson, Wordsworth, Shelley, and Moore in music of atmospheric beauty and symphonic scope. His Symphony No. 12, the last of twelve, was hailed as one of the finest Swedish symphonies of its time, praised for its dramatic power, lyrical intensity, and orchestral brilliance. In Rao-Nai-Nai’s Songs, Fernström drew upon childhood memories of China, weaving pentatonic melodies into a vivid rhapsody of color and rhythm.
