Boëly, Alexandre Pierre Francois
French composer Alexandre Pierre Francois Boëly (1785-1858).
Sometimes called the intermediary between the Classical and Romantic styles of organ music in France. Organist of St. Germain-l'Auxerrois in Paris, where he sought to keep the music on a high level - unlike many of his colleagues in Paris, where the standard was appalingly bad. Boëly's efforts were considered dull and unintelligible by the clergy and he felt obliged to leave his post in 1851.
