Gershwin, George
American composer George Gershwin (1898-1937). Gershwin won success as a composer of light music, bridging the wide gap between Tin Pin Alley and serious music. He wrote most of his vocal and theatrical works in collaboration with his elder brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin. George Gershwin composed songs both for Broadway and for the classical concert hall. He also wrote popular songs with success.
