Skalkottas, Nikos
Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas (1904-1949).
When Skalkottas came in contact with Schoenberg's twelve-tone method, he was able to form different twelve-tone systems of his own, or even to write in a tonal idiom, but always in a characteristic, unmistakably identifiable style, composing truly original works of very high quality. Skalkotta's extant works rank him with the most significant composers of the 20th century, and certainly the greatest among Greek composers of the period.
