English composer Sir John Stainer (1840-1901).
From 1872 until 1888 organist to St Paul's Cathedral. It was at St. Paul's where Stainer would make his mark as a composer of cathedral music and hymns.. In 1881 he was made principal of the National Trainiing School for Music. In 1889 Professor of Music at Oxford. His work as choir trainer and organist set standards for Anglican church music.
