Special Offer
BIS-CD-672 presents two powerful Scandinavian works. The centerpiece is The Oresund Symphony (1993), a visionary composition shared between Danish composer Ole Schmidt and Swedish composer Gunnar Jansson. Commissioned to reflect the spirit of cultural and physical unity symbolized by the Oresund Bridge, the symphony explores themes ranging from aquatic life’s whimsical response to the bridge project to historical ties between Scania and Zealand. It features orchestral and choral textures, soloists, and poetry by Jacques Werup.
Also included is Niels Wilhelm Gade’s Violin Concerto in D minor, composed in 1880 and performed here by the eminent violinist Anton Kontra. Lyrical and refined, the concerto offers rich melodic writing, Romantic warmth, and technical brilliance. The Malmö Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Paavo Järvi and Ole Schmidt.
