This Christmas collection grew out of the choir’s beloved Lucia services, where favourite Swedish carols mingle with hymns, dances and children’s songs. Here that atmosphere is reimagined in a carefully shaped programme that spans Gregorian chant, Nordic classics and carols from across Europe and Latin America, all heard through the velvety sonority of Orphei Drängar’s male voices. Many pieces appear in newly crafted arrangements by their conductor Robert Sund, who preserves each song’s character while drawing on the choir’s celebrated blend, purity of intonation and expressive flexibility. Soprano Christina Högman and baritone Peter Mattei add glowing solo contributions, with Bengt Forsberg’s organ deepening the festive resonance of the Swedish church acoustic. The result is a Christmas album that moves gracefully between intimacy and splendour, devotional stillness and folk-like joy, inviting the listener into a quietly luminous seasonal sound-world.
