One of Five Recorders
Catalog Number: BIS8
One of BIS's very first releases: a joyful recorder programme spanning four centuries, from Byrd and Scheidt to Heinichen, Boismortier, Scarlatti, Telemann and Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite, played by Clas Pehrsson with Musica Dolce and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble.
This early BIS recording shows off the recorder in a remarkable variety of settings. Johann David Heinichen – 'Germany's Rameau' to his contemporaries – contributes a concerto for four recorders and strings with a lyrical pastoral second movement, while Boismortier's concertos for five recorders without continuo, one for treble and one for tenor recorders, capture the gallant charm of the French Baroque. Alessandro Scarlatti's A minor concerto and Telemann's F major Concerto for treble recorder and strings represent the Baroque solo concerto, and earlier times are evoked in consort pieces by Scheidt, Woodcock and Byrd. Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite, based on old French dances, rounds off the programme. Clas Pehrsson, founder of the Musica Dolce ensemble, is the soloist, partnered by Musica Dolce and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble.
