Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767) was one of the most prolific and inventive composers of the Baroque era, and his music for recorder is among the finest in the genre. This disc presents works from the Essercizii Musici and Der getreue Music-Meister collections. The multi-movement 'Introduzzione a tre' from Der getreue Music-Meister is especially imaginative — its six sections bear programmatic names (Xantippe, Lucretia, Corinna, Clelia and Dido), creating a gallery of female characters in music. Also featured are trios in F major and G minor, a Solo in D minor and a Sonata a tre in D minor. Dan Laurin directs and plays recorder, joined by Mogen Rasmussen (viola da gamba), Leif Meyer (harpsichord) and Susanna Laurin (recorder).
