Johann Michael Bach (1648–1694), organist in Gehren, was a skilled composer of vocal and instrumental music – and the father of Maria Barbara, Johann Sebastian's first wife. This album presents his cantatas Der Herr ist König, Ach, wie sehnlich wart' ich der Zeit and Es ist ein großer Gewinn, alongside a Sonata à 4 in G minor and a Suite in A minor, and closes with the Latin motet Veni sancte spiritus. Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier are joined by the ensemble Clematis, soprano Capucine Keller, Brice Sailly and Lucie Chabard. It is part of Ricercar's first complete collection of works by J.S. Bach's ancestors.
