The 35th release in SOMM's acclaimed Beecham Collection highlights the operatic passions at the heart of Sir Thomas Beecham's repertoire. Live recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra showcase his mastery of Berlioz — the composer who anchored Beecham's very first public concert in 1899 — through excerpts from Les Troyens and La Damnation de Faust. Wagner is equally well served with vivid performances from Tannhäuser, Parsifal, Götterdämmerung, and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Audio restoration is once again by producer and engineer Lani Spahr, whose previous SOMM work on Elgar from the Archives was described by Gramophone Magazine as 'astounding' and 'revelatory'.
