Harvey, Peter

English baritone Peter Harvey (born 1958) studied at Magdalen College, Oxford and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. His broad repertoire includes works from the early baroque to contemporary composers, although he is principally known through his performances as soloist with ensembles specialising in early music, including the English Baroque Soloists, the Monteverdi Choir, the Gabrieli Consort and the Purcell Quartet. He is a frequent guest with continental groups such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, The Netherlands Bach Society, Les Talens Lyriques and Il Seminario Musicale. Recent career highlights include a BBC Prom concert of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen and Haydn’s Creation in London, both with the Gabrieli Consort. The music of J.S. Bach forms the core of Harvey’s repertoire, and he was a key participant in Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s ’Bach Cantata Pilgrimage’ in the year 2000. Recent Bach performances include the St. John Passion with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, a European tour of the St. Matthew Passion with The King’s Consort and the Christmas Oratorio and the B minor Mass with Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. Peter Harvey is a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music, London.
