Special Offer
This rich vocal collection features works by Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, and Mendelssohn. At its heart is Robert Schumann’s Spanisches Liederspiel, Op. 74 — a cycle of Spanish-inspired songs for vocal quartet and piano that explores love in its many emotional facets, from melancholy and longing to joyful triumph. Also included is Schumann’s rare comic piece Der Contrabandiste.
Johannes Brahms’ Vier Duette, Op. 28, composed in his second creative period, presents contrasting scenes of romance, humor, and poetic beauty through expressive vocal duets. Franz Schubert brings both levity and depth with the comic mini-opera Der Hochzeitsbraten, and the heartfelt An die Musik, a musical prayer of thanks. The program concludes with Mendelssohn’s Variations sérieuses, a masterful piano work blending passion and lyricism.
Performed by Mårta Schéle, Edith Thallaug, Gösta Winbergh, Erland Hagegård, and pianist Lucia Negro.
